Maytag 3000 Washer Locked With Door Open

Remove the screws coming in from the back of the top panel. You will hear the door click when it unlocks. Unplug washer or disconnect power. The door should unlock after 60 seconds.

After 15 minutes it will reset and the motor will stop humming and the door will unlock. The door may immediately unlock. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. If the door lock is damaged or does not latch properly replace it.

Remove the lower kick panel. If not call for service. Once the washer door is closed the washer can begin operating. Nothing else will appear to be happening with the machine during this time.

Run a drain and spin cycle. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high water level in the washer high water temperature tumbling or spinning. The door lock secures the washer door shut during operation. You should then be able to open the washer door.

Located on the bottom of the door switch lock unit is a teardrop shaped tab. This is a page about unlocking the door on a maytag front load washer. The door lock led light will blink. Reach up along the inside of the front and locate the bottom of the door switch lock unit.

It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. Gently pull the tab down about a 1 4 or until a click is heard. Carefully reach up along the inside of that front panel and pull down on the manual release tab that is on the bottom of the door latch assembly. The top panel will pull straight back up and off.

The washer will go into a hold and drain routine for 8 minutes. Front loaders have a locking mechanism to avoid opening the door during a washing cycle but occasionally this lock will be activated accidentally. If there is no motor humming pull the washer forward and unplug it. Wait approximately 2 minutes for control to reset.

Reconnect power to washer plug in. After plugging the washer in one of the following 3 events will happen.
