Making A Garage Door Taller

I need to cut the opening to the garage 6 taller.

Standard single car garage door widths start at 8 feet for single car garages and move up in 12 inch increments to 10 feet wide. Begin by using a tape measure to determine the width and height of the door opening in inches. I have a detached two car garage that is getting up there in years. We had a few contractors in to give us.

The wife wants to replace the two with one 16 overhead garage door. Just wondering if it would work to add a panel to a garage door to get more height. That made my door height two inches taller. That is the easy project as the building is plenty tall for this.

Anyone ever done this with success. With this kind of width and height dimension you would need garage of around 12 feet width and 12 feet of height door. And the headroom above for a taller door. It has the old style carriage doors.

The garage also needs a new floor and a new roof. The door track should be easy as well. The garage is a total of 24 wide by 24 deep.
